Meet Samantha
Eggceptional Fertility Surrogate Ambassador
Hi, friend! I’m Samantha, but everyone calls me Sam.
I live in Georgia with my amazing husband, John, our energetic 7-year-old son, Ollie, and our chocolate Lab, Bowers. We also have two wonderful bonus sons, Zach and Bash, part-time, so life is always full of adventure! When we’re all together, you’ll usually find us grabbing lunch and heading off for a family adventure—whether it’s the movies, the jump park, bowling, exploring the library, playing at our local park, or practicing football in the field near our house. With a house full of boys, there’s never a dull moment!
Surrogacy wasn’t even on my radar until my son was 2 years old. Honestly, I didn’t know much about it! Everything changed after I met the incredible team at Eggceptional Fertility. The more I learned, the more I realized this was something I was truly meant to do.

I was fortunate to have an uncomplicated pregnancy with my son, delivering him vaginally at 40 weeks. After many conversations with my husband, family, and close friends—and knowing I had their full support—I took the leap and began my first surrogacy journey.
I matched with an incredible single father whose dream was to have twins. Yes… twins! While I fully understood the additional risks that come with carrying multiples, I also knew my body and felt confident in my ability to give this journey everything I had.
I traveled to Utah for a double embryo transfer, then returned home for monitoring. Soon enough, we received the exciting news that both embryos had implanted—I was pregnant with twins! I was equal parts shocked and overjoyed.
My husband was immensely supportive of me in this journey, but was not very involved with the intended parent, as this was also his first journey and he was very unsure how to navigate it. At 35 weeks and 6 days, I delivered a healthy baby boy and baby girl vaginally with no complications. Watching their father hold both of his babies for the very first time is a moment I’ll never forget. As a mom myself, I recognized the overwhelming love and joy on his face. His arms were full, but they couldn’t compare to how full his heart was. Being part of that moment was one of the greatest privileges of my life.
After such an incredible experience, I knew my journey wasn’t over.
For my second surrogacy journey, I traveled to Los Angeles to meet the sweetest intended parents. These intended parents only had one embryo. While, as crazy as it sounds, this was a little more intimidating than twins because we only had one shot, I knew I could do it. We transferred one beautiful, and perfect, little girl embryo. Then, 12 days later, we celebrated a positive HCG test. A few weeks after that, we heard the heartbeat of our little surro babe—a moment that truly never gets old.
Throughout the pregnancy, my husband and I built an incredible friendship with these intended parents. We had a group text thread, talked several times a week, and we even traveled to Florida to spend time with them before delivery. By the time their daughter arrived, they truly felt like family, and still do.
In September, I delivered a healthy, beautiful, chunky baby girl, and watching her parents finally meet her was absolutely priceless. The best part? Our relationship didn’t end there. We still talk regularly and even plan trips to visit each other when we can. Surrogacy didn’t just give them a baby—it truly gave us lifelong friends.

Today, I’m incredibly excited to be on my third surrogacy journey with another wonderful family. I always laugh and say, “This is my last journey!” …but honestly, who knows? Every experience has been so rewarding that it’s hard to imagine saying goodbye forever.
Surrogacy has changed my life in ways I never expected. It has allowed me to help create families, build lifelong friendships, and experience some of the most meaningful moments imaginable. It truly has been one of the greatest blessings of my life.

If you’re curious about surrogacy, considering becoming a surrogate, or simply have questions, I would absolutely love to chat with you. I remember what it felt like to be where you are now, and I’m always happy to share my experiences honestly and openly.
Thank you for following along on my journey. I can’t wait to get to know you, become besties, and hopefully help you begin a life-changing journey of your own.
Q and A with Samantha
What first led you to consider surrogacy?
Believe it or not, I didn’t originally apply to become a surrogate—I applied to be an egg donor! At the time, I had just learned about the incredible ways women could help others build their families, and I knew I wanted to be part of that. As I went through the screening process, we discovered that I had too much family medical history to safely donate my genetics. That’s when the team at Eggceptional Fertility introduced me to surrogacy. I realized that while I couldn’t donate my genetics, I could still give someone one of the greatest gifts imaginable—the opportunity to become a parent. Looking back, surrogacy was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.

How did your family and friends react when you shared your decision?
When I first told my family and friends that I wanted to become a surrogate, their initial reaction was definitely a lot of hesitation. Like many people, they didn’t fully understand how gestational surrogacy works and assumed I would be giving away my own baby. Once I explained the process—that the baby is created using the intended parents’ (or donor) embryos and that I have no genetic connection to the child—their perspective completely changed. They realized that I wasn’t giving away my own baby; I was helping another family welcome theirs. After learning more about surrogacy, they became incredibly supportive of my decision. They have celebrated every milestone with me and have been some of my biggest cheerleaders along the way.
How did you choose your intended parents?
For me, it really came down to the connection. I always say I went with my gut—or, as I like to put it, I went off the vibes! I wanted to match with intended parents whose values aligned with mine. I was looking for people who were kind, compassionate, genuine, and deeply excited about becoming parents. I also wanted a relationship where we could communicate openly, support one another, and truly enjoy the journey together. Feeling that connection from the beginning was incredibly important. I’ve been so fortunate to work with amazing intended parents, and the friendships we’ve built have become one of the most meaningful parts of my surrogacy journey.
What surprised you most about your surrogacy journey?
I think what surprised me most was how normal everything felt. Before becoming a surrogate, I wasn’t sure what to expect during pregnancy, but once I was pregnant, it felt very similar to carrying my own son. I still experienced all the excitement of pregnancy while knowing this baby was going exactly where he or she is meant to be—with their intended parents.

How did surrogacy impact you physically and emotionally?
Physically, I was very fortunate to have healthy pregnancies and smooth recoveries throughout my surrogacy journeys. Every pregnancy is different, and while there were the normal aches, exhaustion, and all the things that come with growing a baby, I felt well-supported by everyone around me.
Emotionally, surrogacy has had an even greater impact on me. It has given me a deeper appreciation for the strength of women and the resilience of intended parents. Surrogacy has taught me deeper compassion, strengthened my confidence in what my body is capable of, and given my friendships that will last a lifetime.
Did the experience change your perspective on family or parenthood?
Absolutely. Becoming a surrogate gave me an even deeper appreciation for what it means to become a parent. Being a mom myself, I already knew how life-changing it is to welcome a child. But through surrogacy, I was able to witness firsthand just how much love, hope, and perseverance intended parents pour into growing their families. Many have faced years of infertility, loss, or unexpected obstacles before finally holding their baby. I’ve learned that families are built in many different ways, but the love that holds them together is always the same.
What was the relationship like with your IP’s after the baby was born?
Every surrogacy journey is unique, and every relationship looks a little different after the baby is born. One of the things I love most about surrogacy is that there’s no “right” way—it all depends on what feels natural for everyone involved. After my first journey, it was so special to watch my intended father settle into life with his twins, and we still keep in touch. With my second journey, our relationship grew into a genuine friendship. After their daughter was born, our friendship only became stronger. We still talk regularly, share updates, and even plan trips to visit each other.

Is there anything you wish people understood better about surrogacy?
I wish more people understood that gestational surrogacy is not giving away your own child. One of the biggest misconceptions is that a surrogate is genetically related to the baby she’s carrying. In gestational surrogacy, that’s simply not the case. The embryo is created using the intended parents’ or donors’ genetics, and the surrogate’s role is to lovingly carry and nurture the pregnancy until it’s time for the baby to go home with their family. (It’s literally like baking someone else’s cake in your oven). I also wish people knew how thoughtfully this process is approached. Surrogates go through extensive medical and psychological screenings, and everyone involved works together to make sure it’s the right fit. It’s a journey built on trust, communication, and a shared goal of helping create a family.
What advice would you give someone considering surrogacy?
My biggest piece of advice would be to really take the time to understand the process and make sure you feel fully supported—but if your heart is in it, trust that feeling. Surrogacy is one of the most meaningful experiences I’ve ever had, but it’s also a big commitment physically, emotionally, and mentally. I always encourage anyone considering it to ask questions, talk to your family, learn about the agency, and make sure you feel comfortable in every aspect.
What did you learn about yourself during the journey?
One of the biggest things I learned about myself through surrogacy is just how much I love being part of something bigger than myself. During each journey, I realized how strong I am physically and emotionally. I also learned how important connection is to me. I never expected to build such meaningful relationships, but those friendships became one of the most rewarding parts of my experience. It showed me that I genuinely thrive when I’m helping others and being part of life-changing moments. After each journey, I’ve felt even more confident in who I am and what I’m capable of. Surrogacy has reminded me that I am resilient, compassionate, and able to take on something truly meaningful and see it through with love and intention.

What moments from the journey will stay with you forever?
There are so many small moments from my surrogacy journeys that I know I will carry with me from my surrogacy journeys. But the most unforgettable moments across all of my journeys are always the same—the first time intended parents hold their baby. There is nothing quite like watching years of hope, waiting, and love turn into that very first embrace. It’s emotional (yes, you will probably cry), powerful, and something I will never be able to fully put into words. Those are the moments that stay with me forever.
Looking back now, how do you feel about the experience overall?
Looking back on my surrogacy journeys, I feel an overwhelming sense of gratitude, pride and love. Surrogacy has given me moments I will cherish forever and knowing I played a small part in something so life-changing for someone else will always hold a special place in my heart.
How did the financial reward of surrogacy impact your family’s life?
It gave us the ability to create more experiences together—traveling more, making memories with our children, and doing things we might not have been able to do otherwise. Those moments together have been incredibly special and something I’ll always be grateful for. It also allowed us to be more present and supportive for others in our lives. Whether it was helping family, friends, or someone in need, it gave us a little more freedom to give back in ways that mattered to us.

How was the delivery room experience different than with your own children?
Each delivery room experience was unique in its own way, especially compared to when I delivered my own son. With my first surrogacy journey, I gave birth to twins vaginally, almost an hour apart, which in itself made the experience very different. It was emotional and intense, and unfortunately my intended father didn’t make it in time for the delivery—he arrived the following morning. Even though he wasn’t physically there for the birth, the moment he finally got to hold his babies was incredibly special and worth the wait.
My second journey was also such a different experience in the best way. My intended mother was right there in the room with me, even holding one of my legs and being one of my biggest supporters through the entire delivery. My intended father was also there, standing in the corner of the room emotional and overwhelmed (and honestly trying not to pass out!). It was a mix of laughter, tears, and pure excitement. My husband was by my side throughout both experiences, rubbing my head, encouraging me, and being my constant support, just like he was during my own son’s birth.
Surrogacy delivery rooms may look different from a traditional birth, but they are filled with just as much love, emotion, and support—sometimes even more in ways I never expected.
Would you do it again?
I’m honestly not sure when I will stop doing it.
