Meet Azarae

Eggceptional Fertility Surrogate Ambassador

Hi there, my name is Azarae Thompson.

Becoming a surrogate mother has been a long standing dream of mine, sparked by the profound experience of giving birth to my own child. Words can hardly capture the overwhelming joy of holding my own baby, and this feeling led me to embark on this extraordinary journey. Being a surrogate has allowed me to experience a level of fulfillment that is truly indescribable. It’s a decision rooted in empathy, love, and the profound belief that every individual deserves the chance to experience the joy of parenthood. While it’s natural to get attached to the baby, I am fully aware from the beginning that this child is not mine to keep. I take solace in knowing that I am helping to create a family and that the love and care provided by the child’s parents are what will shape its future.

Being a surrogate has been one of the most powerful and rewarding decisions I have ever made. The opportunity to help a family by carrying their child is, in my eyes, one of the most precious gifts one can give. I am filled with immeasurable joy at the role I have been fortunate enough to play in this beautiful journey.

Q and A with Azarae

What first led you to consider surrogacy?
I considered surrogacy because I have always wanted to help others experience the joy of becoming parents. Knowing there are families who long for a child but are unable to carry a pregnancy themselves really touched my heart. After having healthy pregnancies of my own, I realized I had the ability to give someone an incredible gift. The opportunity to help create a family while making such a meaningful difference in someone else’s life is what inspired me to become a gestational carrier.

After completing my first surrogacy journey, my desire to help another family only grew stronger. Seeing the joy and gratitude of the intended parents and knowing I played a part in helping their dreams come true was an incredible rewarding experience. That journey confirmed that surrogacy is something I truly feel called to do.

How did your family and friends react when you shared your decision?
When I first shared my decision to become a gestational carrier, my family and friends had a lot of questions because many of them were not familiar with surrogacy. Once I explained the process and why it was so meaningful to me, they became incredibly supportive. They understood that I wasn’t expanding my own family, but I was helping another family grow theirs. Throughout my journey, they have encouraged me, checked in on me, and celebrated the opportunity to help make someone else dream of becoming parents come true. Having their support has made the experience even more meaningful.

What surprised you most about your surrogacy journey?
What surprised me most about my surrogacy journey was how much more meaningful and emotional the experience became than I ever expected. I knew I was helping another family grow, but I didn’t fully realize how strong the bond and connection could become throughout the process. I was also surprised by how much I learned about myself. Surrogacy has shown me how strong, compassionate, and selfless I can be. From medical appointments and changes during pregnancy to the emotional moments along the way, every part of the journey has been unique and rewarding. Seeing the excitement, love, and gratitude from my intended parents has been one of the most special parts of this experience and reminded me why I chose to do this.

How did surrogacy impact you physically and emotionally?
Surrogacy impacted me both physically and emotionally in ways I expected and in ways I didn’t. Physically, pregnancy comes with the same challenges any pregnancy can bring, including hanged to my body, fatigue, and the everyday ups and downs that come with carrying a baby. Knowing that I was carrying a baby for another family gave those challenges a deeper purpose and made every moment worthwhile.

Emotionally, there were moments of excitement, anticipation, and deep connection, but also moments where I had to navigate the emotions that come with carrying a baby that I would not be bringing home. It has taught me a lot about strength, empathy, and the ability to love in a unique way. The opportunity to help my intended parents has made every sacrifice meaningful and I am grateful for the experience.

Is there anything you wish people understood better about surrogacy?
I wish more people understood that surrogacy is about so much more than carrying a baby. It is about compassion, trust, and helping create a family. Many people don’t realize the amount of thought, commitment, and emotional strength that goes into being a gestational carrier. We understand the purpose and the gift we are providing, we carry with love and care because we know how deeply the baby is wanted by the intended parents. Surrogacy is a selfless choice that allows someone else to experience the love and joy of parenthood and it is an incredible journey built on respect, communication, and trust between everyone involved.

What advice would you give someone considering surrogacy?
My advice to someone considering surrogacy would be to take time to truly understand the journey before making a decision. Surrogacy is an incredible rewarding experience, but it also requires a lot of commitment, patience, and emotional strength. It is important to do your research, ask questions, and make sure you have a strong support system around you. Most importantly, I would tell them to trust their heart and make sure they are choosing surrogacy for the right reasons. Helping another family grow is an amazing gift, and while there are challenges along the way the impact you can make on someone’s life is truly amazing.

How did the financial reward of surrogacy impact your family’s life?
The financial compensation from surrogacy had a positive impact on my family’s life by providing additional stability and allowing us to work toward important goals. It helped relieve some financial stress and gave us opportunities that may not have been possible otherwise. The financial support was an added benefit that allowed my family to grow and plan for the future while I was also giving such a meaningful gift to someone else.

Would you do it again?
Yes, I would absolutely consider doing surrogacy again. This is my second surrogacy journey and each experience has continued to remind me how meaningful and rewarding this process is. After completing this journey, I would be open to becoming a gestational carrier for a third time if the right opportunity and circumstances align. I would be grateful for the chance to help another family grow in the future.
