The Surrogate Process
What’s involved in the surrogate process from initial application, embryo transfer, to child birth.
The Surrogate Process
What you can expect in the surrogate process: Eggceptional Fertility only works with gestational surrogates. In gestational surrogacy, an embryo is created with the intended mother’s eggs or those of an egg donor and fertilized with the sperm of the intended father or a sperm donor. The fertilized egg, or embryo, is then transferred to the surrogate who carries the baby to term.
1. INITIAL APPLICATION
If you meet the initial requirements, you can submit a surrogate application here. The application will ask about your health history, living situation, and support system, and other questions to determine if you are a good candidate for surrogacy.
2. PERSONAL INTERVIEW
We review every application we receive. If we think you are a good fit for Eggceptional Fertility, we will reach out to schedule a personal interview. This is also your opportunity to ask us any questions you may have about the surrogacy process.
3. CREATE A SURROGATE PROFILE
Once you are accepted as an Eggceptional surrogate, we will create your profile with the information you provided. This is how intended parents will see you on our database. Our surrogate profiles include family photos, and possibly a video introduction for intended parents to view.
4. MEET WITH INTENDED PARENTS
Once your profile is completed, we will work to match you with intended parents. We will then schedule a video conference call or in person meeting with you and the intended parents. We will be with you during this meeting to introduce everyone and give you the opportunity to ask questions and decide if all of you feel that you would like to work together.
5. SIGN AGREEMENTS
Once you have matched with the right intended parents, you will all sign the necessary legal agreements. At this time, you and the intended parents will decide on important details such as how much contact with each other you’d like to have during and after the surrogacy process.
6. SURROGATE SCREENING
You will receive a complete medical exam at the intended parents’ fertility clinic. This usually involves a physical exam to determine if you are a good candidate for surrogacy. You will also complete a psychological evaluation. If you are married or in a committed relationship, your partner will be required to complete a psychological evaluation and infectious disease testing.
7. TRANSFER OF EMBRYOS
Once you have been cleared, the intended parents’ doctor will transfer the embryo(s) to you at their fertility clinic with the hopes of a pregnancy.
8. PREGNANCY
Now the truly special part begins! When the good news of pregnancy is achieved, we will remain your primary support as you carry the baby to term. We will help schedule appointments and checkups, answer any questions, and be there for you along the way.
9. BIRTH
You will deliver the baby at the hospital of your choice. The intended parents are often present for the birth of their child, if agreed to in the surrogacy contract. We will contact the hospital to ensure they know who is involved in the surrogacy process. Congratulations on delivering this tiny miracle!
Surrogacy is a wonderful, generous way to help intended parents overcome challenges to build their family. If you’re interested in helping a family’s dreams come true, apply today!
