Surrogate Spotlight: Meet Eggceptional Fertility Surrogate Amber
When in your heart did you know you wanted to become a gestational surrogate?
I originally wanted to be a surrogate for my sister-in-law who had cystic fibrosis and was unable to carry. She eventually had a double lung transplant and didn’t survive the surgery.
What made you decide your Intended Parents were the right fit for you?
When we had our initial meeting that was supposed to last around 30 mins and ended up being 2 hours, I knew that we were a match and had very similar likes.
Throughout your surrogacy journey who was your greatest support person?
My greatest support person was my husband. He was able to inject all my shots, help me through the tough times, and made sure I got what I needed and wanted.
How was this pregnancy different from your other pregnancy(s)?
This pregnancy was my first twin pregnancy. I did end up having complications that I have never encountered in my own pregnancies. It did make me nervous towards the end but I knew my gynecologist had my best intentions and would take care of me.
How did you prepare yourself for separating from the baby after they were born?
My whole pregnancy I did not have an issue with attachment to the babies. My kids knew they were not ours to keep as well. Mentally and physically, I knew they were not mine and I did not have any issues.
Do you have advice for women who are interested in becoming a surrogate?
Make sure to ask for what you want. Don’t be afraid to want more information before you make a commitment before you match.
What do you think is the biggest misconception people have about surrogacy?
A lot of people assume you will have a issue with attachment. Being a surrogate, you know you will leave the baby in the end. You have to have the right mentality to not have any issues.
How has becoming a surrogate impacted your life?
Since my pregnancy, I have kept in contact with my intended parents. I’m very grateful they chose me to carry their most prized possessions.
What are some highlights of your surrogacy journey?
I enjoyed getting to share pictures and videos to the parents of their babies growing. It made me happy to see them in the screen knowing I was the one helping bring the babies into the world.
Is there any other information and or stories you would like to share?
I’m very happy with Eggceptional Surrogates Agency and look forward to hopefully being able to be a surrogate again in the future!
